The Stud Gun, or Stud Welding System, comes in many types and varieties, all having one thing in common: application of the Stud Welding process. Stud Welding is a high-speed method of metal fastening in which a metal fastener can be applied by instant welding to another metal surface.
The Stud Gun, or Stud Welding System, consists of a Power Supply or "Controller", the actual Stud “Gun”, and cables to link the stud welding system and work-piece. Very simply a “short” between the stud and work-piece is created and controlled to form and bond the fastener to the work surface as desired. The Stud Gun holds the stud properly during the process, assists in placement of the fastener and assures proper timing with alignment of the part being stud welded. This high quality fusion weld is complete in seconds and is accomplished by one of two major methods: Capacitor Discharge or Arc Stud Welding.
Capacitor Discharge (usually "CD" for short) is typically used on lighter gauge metal and on fasteners up to 3/8” (M10) in diameter. Arc Stud Welding can apply studs up to 1” or greater in diameter, and is characterized by a penetration weld to heavier gauges of material, typically 14gauge thick and more. For more detail and a description of differences in these methods, see "What is Stud Welding".
MIDWEST manufactures a complete line of Stud Guns and Systems. The Talon, Eagle,
CD80, CD100,
CD700 and SureShot comprise the MIDWEST Capacitor Discharge line.
The UA500, UA1000, UA1800 and UA100 make up the MIDWEST line of Arc Stud Welders.

Separate Weld Guns (as gun tool only) are also available for replacement as component parts to existing Stud Welding Systems. Dependant upon their style, and job, these Gun components can have various parts and characteristics. Stud Welding Accessories are used in conjunction with each gun style to properly set-up and match the stud, or fastener, to the Weld Gun.
MIDWEST Fasteners manufactures and provides a full line of Stud Guns, Stud Welding Systems, Stud Welding Accessories and Stud Welded Fasteners. Use the contact form on this page to reach MIDWEST from our site.
