ARC WELD STUDS: SHEAR CONNECTOR

The Shear Connector Arc Weld Stud, or shear connector, is a plain shank weld stud designed for application with arc stud welding equipment. This type of stud welded fastener is flux-loaded on the weld end for studwelding in structural steel and composite design applications. Available in low carbon steel and stainless steel, selected special materials and grades are available on special order. The shear connector is characterized by a plain body and an oversized “head”. By definition and engineered design, the head diameter is one-and-one-half times the size of this weld stud’s body diameter, giving it proper performance and properties in critical applications. Studwelding of the weld stud burns off a portion of the base so that the pre-weld, post-weld length dimension should be considered. Only standard lengths are stock and available, with limited special order variations. All orders for arc weld studs from Midwest Fasteners include ceramic studwelding ferrules properly sized for the weld stud ordered. For shear connectors ferrules styles are available for welding through metal deck, and also for flat surfaces, inside angles, and outside angles.
